Privacy policy
Effective October 21, 2026 ยท applies to anglerbc.ca and the AnglerBC app.
AnglerBC is an independent fishing companion. It is not affiliated with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) or the Province of British Columbia.
Location
With your permission, AnglerBC uses your device location only while the app is open to find the water you are on and show its fishing rules, tides, weather and water levels. Location is not tracked in the background.
Your live location is not stored or shared. A location is saved only when you choose to: save a spot, log a catch, share a pin, or send a violation report. You can say no and tap the map instead.
Camera and photos
The camera opens only when you tap a camera button โ to identify a fish, log a catch, photograph a violation, or save a copy of your licence. Photos are stored privately in your account and shown to others only if you share them.
Fish identification photos are sent to an AI service only to suggest the species; they are not used for advertising.
What we store
- Account: email address and sign-in method (email, Google or Apple).
- Your content: catches, saved spots, shared pins, forum posts and replies, profile handle, connections and groups.
- Fishing licence copies: private to you; never shared, sold, or sent to AI.
- Violation reports: description, photos, location and time. These are prepared as an email from your own mail app to DFO; we can't confirm DFO received them. After you confirm sending, only the location and date appear as an unverified marker on the map for 30 days.
- Messages you send through Contact us, including the page and device type when you report a problem.
Who can see your information
The AnglerBC owner can view saved spots, violation reports and contact messages to run, support and improve the service. We do not sell personal information. Public translations of rules are processed by an AI service; your private content is never included.
Service providers we rely on: Lovable Cloud (hosting and database), map tiles from OpenStreetMap and Esri, weather and tide data from public sources such as Environment Canada and DFO, and Google/Apple if you use them to sign in.
Advertising
Promotions in the top banner and promotion pages are labelled. Advertisers do not receive your personal information.
